Between Two Celebrities
Talking to a celebrity would be nerve-wracking.
Talking to a celebrity on live television with a studio audience and no script would be borderline death-defying.
I’m always impressed when talk show hosts like Ellen DeGeneres or Bill Maher can seamlessly navigate a dialogue with a guest and be hysterical in the process. It’s hard enough to get people to laugh WITH a script; to be able to do it without is truly an art form…
… an art form Zach Galifianakis has mastered.
On his show, Between Two Ferns, The Hangover actor has roasted his fair share of celebrities. Here are some of the best exchanges ever recorded on the show.
Countless studies over the years have concluded that, when asked what makes them the most insecure, men generally cite their level of success while women focus on their looks and/or weight.
At first glance, these responses seem pretty superficial and inconsequential in the grand scheme of things. However, when you compare the responses against the social context we’ve created, it’s hardly shocking. Men are overwhelmingly judged by their money and women, by their appearance.
And, if you are lucky enough to be a beautiful woman or a financially-successful man (or both), you probably have enjoyed all of the advantages these qualities have afforded you.
However, the idea that these two characteristics directly influence your overall happiness is a TERRIBLE lesson to teach your kids. And it’s just not accurate.
Money and looks can be lost at any time. Thus, it is important we teach our kids that other attributes create a more sturdy foundation of security and self-autonomy.
Slam poet, Katie Makkah, eloquently addresses the topic in this powerful monologue.
