Twitter’s Easter Eggs
The genius behind Twitter is that, in just shy of 150 characters, you can get a glimpse into the human soul.
Twitter is utilized for all sorts of reasons: to promote oneself, to discuss current events, to make jokes, to bitch about others, and to run a country (as Donald Trump has proven, time and time again).
Personally, I’m not very good at Tweeting. I’m just not witty enough to come up with something worth reading in under ten seconds. Hell, I’m not good at writing stuff worth reading in long articles, as indicated right now. (Seriously, why are you still reading this?)
However, there are quite a few “Easter eggs” floating around the Twitter echo chamber, proving there are still people out there clever enough to continue the evolution of the human race while the rest of us succumb to Darwinism.
Here are just a few of Twitter’s most witty, relatable tweets that will make your day.
This weekend was Cinco De Mayo. Ironically the only people that seem to REALLY give a crap about it are Americans. You know, the same people that really want to build a wall because we care so much about Mexico’s Independence.
Real talk for a second: any excuse to get shit-faced is always welcome. I’m pretty sure that’s a universal appreciation and practice.
But America is particularly good at stealing other cultures’ holidays and making it our own. Why? Cuz… ‘Murica. We celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day, Cinco De Mayo, Halloween, and Octoberfest… not really because we care about the backstory behind these holidays; we just REALLY enjoy cultural appropriation and shitty alcohol.
I’m not trying to be a P.C. social warrior, I’m really not. I just think how we celebrate Cinco de Mayo would be the rough equivalent of Mexico celebrating the Fourth of July by wearing wife beaters, drinking Pabst beer, and getting a Luke Bryant impersonator to play the National Anthem at every bar.
If that doesn’t dissuade you from wearing a Sombrero and drinking crappy tequila, that’s your prerogative. But you probably should go into it knowing the truth about May 5th.
Here are 8 myths surrounding the Mexican holiday you probably believe.
Christina Aguilera is back at it with her new single – Accelerate – which features Ty Dolla $ign, 2 Chainz.
