Fear and Loathing In Loneliness
On the surface, it would appear as though we are a society more connected than ever before.
You can find potential suitors on countless dating websites. You can play video games with other people without them being in the same room. You can call anyone in the world using Skype or WhatsApp without crazy charges. You can catch up with friends or debate with strangers using social media apps like Facebook and Reddit. It would appear as though we’re more “plugged in” to society than ever before.
BUT, the great dichotomy in online social networking is that it can actually be quite isolating. We aren’t forced to interact with each other on a daily basis because we can access anything we want from the confines of our home.
Maybe this is why so many young people report feelings of loneliness and isolation.
Recently, Cigna conducted an in-depth analysis regarding the association between youth and feelings of disconnect and desolation. The results were pretty shocking… and telling.
People like their churches much like the way they like their coffee – some like it straight, some like it bold, some prefer it sweet-and-simple while others gravitate toward the fancy. Then there are some people who really don’t care HOW it comes, so long as they get their daily fix.
Personally I like it black – both my coffee and church, that is.
I have attended a variety of churches throughout my life, and though I don’t claim a particular denomination, I have to say that black churches keeps sh** real. The preachers are forceful but not in that “foreboding” kind of way many white priests misconstrue as “passion.” The congregation always seems genuinely happy and vocalize their appreciation throughout the ceremony. Oh and the music! Man, do black people know how to create music that just makes your heart swell with joy. Black churches have SOUL which can be hard to find these days as these mega-churches kep pop up everywhere.
But that’s just my opinion.
Usually, I’m kind of against huge churches that spend crazy money on aesthetics. I don’t think God nor Jesus gives a crap about, say, pyrotechnics and priests blinged out in Armani suits and Rolex watches.
But when I saw what happens at this church in Madrid, I was BLOWN AWAY! Even if you aren’t religious, this is something you’ll want to see.
