“I think a lot of times we don’t pay enough attention to people with a positive attitude because we assume they are naive or stupid or unschooled.” – Amy Adams
College Degree Yet You Still Can’t Get a Job
We live in a society that does a great job of convincing people that they need a college education if they want to get a great job. This sounds good, but what happens when you have a college graduate that has absolutely no work experience under his belt?
Most college students complain that they can’t find a job because employers want to see work experience on their resume. This complaint is typically followed by graduates stating that they don’t have work experience because they were too busy working on their degree. Makes sense.
In this video, two guys decided to spoof this scenario and show just how ridiculous some employers can be when it comes to demanding work experience. Having a college education is not enough to land a position these days.
Although most employers would like people to believe that they can’t be hired due to a lack of experience, they know in their hearts that they are merely covering up the truth. The reality is that so many individuals are graduating from college that employers are attempting to find new ways to ween talent. They know that they can–and will–train new employees, so this is not truly the reason behind their refusal to hire certain candidates.
By telling potential hires that they are looking for someone with work experience, this is their way of getting a candidate who has a degree and years of experience so that they can pay them pennies for all that they bring to the table. It’s business, not personal. It is enough to frustrate any job seeker, and for a good cause.
The Dalai Lama is known for being a gentleman who consistently discusses the importance of the inner person, rather than focusing on their outer beauty…or lack thereof. Recently, he has set a world record of being the first man to disappoint a nation of women based on one single comment. While being interviewed by a woman, he stated that his successor–if a woman–needs to be beautiful because no one wants to look at that face. His accent made it a bit tough to understand what he was saying, but he definitely made sure that much was understood
At what point did the Dalai Lama become tainted with the notion that a woman must look a certain way to be taken seriously? Did he ever stop to realize that he’s overweight, yet people still seem to care about what he has to say? It’s amazing that societal ignorance somehow made its way to the most loving, caring, and sensitive man in human existence. Is this to say that Gandhi would have been this way had he lived longer? As women, we continue to search for a man–religious leader or not–who has the ability to truly see us for who and what we are. We thought we found that in the Dalai Lama, and for that, we felt joy in the notion that there just might be some hope for man.
Well, now that is shot to hell…thanks, Lama! In his interview, he attempted to explain himself by stating that humans rely on looks and that this is why his successor female would have to be attractive. If this is the case, why is it that people listen to him? He’s far from a walking hunk of a man. To make matters worse, he was telling this crap to a woman. It’s amazing how tainted a person can get these days.
The biggest disappointment is that the Dalai Lama is supposed to represent one person’s human ability to overcome the bigotry, sexism, and lookism that exists so that he can help us all see the soul of a person. Too bad for the let-down.
Check out this video of his interview and tell us if you feel just as disappointed as most who have seen this.
