Love Can Be The Greatest Pain

The Nightcap

“When we are in love we often doubt that which we most believe.” – Francois de La Rochefoucauld

Unrequited Love

We have all been in a situation where we had a major crush on someone, only to find out that they didn’t feel the same way about us. The pain can be so intense that we often think that we will never recover. The truth of the matter is that although we recovered from the immediate pain of the rejection, did we ever really recover from the loss of innocence?

When you love someone, there is a certain innocence to that love. You don’t know much about the person, other than what they look like and their name, but somehow you feel as if you have known them for a lifetime. You think about them all day, you imagine the person being a major part of your life, and you smile at the thought of kissing them. There is nothing but innocence in those thoughts. You simply want the person to love you back. The problem, however, is when the person not only fails to feel the same way that you do, but they also hate you. Ouch.

In this video, we have a very real situation where a young man in high school wanted to approach his crush with a bouquet to let her know how he feels. It’s bad enough that he did this publicly in front of a group of high school students, but he did so in front of her friends, as well. The poor guy followed her while holding the flowers, but she was so humiliated that she pushed the flowers to the ground and cursed him prior to walking away. All of the kids laughed at his expense and all you can see is him staring at the flowers on the ground in despair. It’s hard to watch because in a way we can all relate to the guy. To love someone who not only fails to love you back, but they also show feelings of disgust. No greater pain.
